Inquest Rules Barnsley Couple Died From Combined Heroin, Cocaine and Methadone Toxicity

A coroner cited long-term drug dependence based on toxicology findings.

Overview

  • Assistant Coroner Nathalie James delivered the findings at a November 5 inquest at the Sheffield Medico Legal Centre, recording both deaths as drug-related.
  • Claire White, 32, and Mark Martin Sinton, 42, were found at his Priory Road home in Barnsley by his mother on February 21 and were pronounced dead at 4:16pm.
  • Police documented a positive pregnancy test beside the couple along with a crack pipe and other drug paraphernalia at the scene.
  • The pair were discovered lying on top of each other in a state of undress, and forensic evidence could not establish which person died first.
  • The court heard the couple returned home around 5pm the previous day, had a long history of intravenous drug use, and shared four children while living with his mother.
