Inquest Records Drowning of 13-Year-Old Who Entered Syston Lake

The coroner has adjourned the hearing to await a police report with a review set for October 28.

  • Hayden Jones-Powell entered Meynell Lake to cool off during the June 25 heatwave and was reported to have got into difficulty after an emergency call shortly after 1.30pm.
  • Leicestershire Police sent specialist diving teams and Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service and East Midlands Ambulance Service crews to search the lake throughout the afternoon.
  • Rescue teams recovered Hayden from the water the following day, June 26.
