Overview
- The Wiltshire inquest concluded misadventure in the May 2025 death of two-year-old Rufus Davies on a private drive in Tidcombe near Marlborough.
- Police told the hearing they found no faults with the Porsche Macan, the driver tested negative for drugs and alcohol, and the circumstances did not meet the Crown Prosecution Service test for charges on private land.
- Investigators said a child of Rufus’s height, about 1.03 metres, would be out of view in the rear window unless 4.3 metres back, and parking sensors would not detect him at that distance.
- Statements described how Rufus was helped from his mother’s car and ran behind it as family friend Tamsin Hayward reversed slowly into her usual space.
- Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene after CPR, and a post-mortem found a diffuse traumatic head injury from the vehicle impact.
