Overview
- Temitope Segun, 25, fled custody after assaulting a staff member during a transfer from Bromley Magistrates' Court to HMP Thameside on Monday, June 8.
- He was last seen near Woolwich High Street at about 6.40pm wearing a black jacket, black trousers and black trainers and is thought to have links to Plumstead, Abbey Wood and Woolwich.
- Metropolitan Police have mounted an urgent manhunt and urged the public not to approach him, telling anyone with information to call 999 and quote reference 2270/10JUN or to contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
- The prisoner escort van was operated by private contractor Serco, which confirmed a staff member was injured, is recuperating at home, and said the company is investigating the incident.
- The escape is likely to increase scrutiny of prisoner-escort procedures and Ministry of Justice contracts covering the south of England as police and Serco inquiries continue and local residents stay on alert.
