Overview
- Frontier and Cebu Pacific confirmed Tuesday that they will begin installing SpaceX’s Starlink in-flight internet in early 2027 as part of an Indigo Partners program to equip more than 1,000 aircraft across its portfolio.
- Carriers say Starlink will deliver gate-to-gate, low-latency broadband that supports HD streaming, online gaming, video calls and operational links for pilots, cabin crews, maintenance teams and ground operations.
- Frontier and Indigo have not disclosed financial terms or how passenger access will be priced, leaving open whether the service will be complimentary, bundled or sold as an add-on.
- Large-scale installations require aircraft-type approvals and regulatory certification, so the pace of the rollout and total investment remain uncertain even as carriers begin planning installations.
- The commitments intensify competition in inflight connectivity as legacy carriers and rivals develop their own satellite strategies, and the move could shift passenger expectations for budget travel and revenue choices for low-cost airlines.
