IndiaUS Interim Trade Framework Finalized With Zero Tariffs on Key Indian Exports, Farm and Dairy Safeguards Intact

Indian ministers say the pact expands access to the US market without opening India’s sensitive agriculture lines.

Overview

  • Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said the US will apply 0% tariffs to a wide slate of Indian exports, including gems and diamonds, pharmaceuticals, smartphones, spices, tea and coffee, coconut products, vegetable oil, cashew, many fruits and processed foods, and several industrial goods.
  • Goyal clarified that India has offered no concessions on sensitive farm and dairy categories, allowing only calibrated quotas where India is a net importer such as soybean oil, limited relief on tree nuts, and apple imports constrained by a price floor and a smaller quota than before.
  • Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan reiterated that GM products remain barred and listed cereals, sugar, poultry, dairy and pulses such as kabuli chana and moong among items excluded, while noting several Indian agricultural exports to the US will now face zero duty.
  • Separately, the National Investigation Agency filed a chargesheet in Vijayawada against Sheikh Amanullah alias Abu Bakar Siddiqui under UAPA, the Arms Act and the Explosives Act in the 2025 explosives seizure case in Andhra Pradesh.
  • Chhattisgarh DSP Kalpana Verma was suspended and moved to police headquarters pending departmental and forensic probes into alleged financial irregularities, a ‘love‑trap’ extortion claim and the leaking of sensitive information.
