India’s Power Grid Tops 5 Lakh Circuit Kilometres After New Rajasthan Link

A newly commissioned 765 kV Bhadla II–Sikar II line enabled the milestone by opening evacuation for 1,100 MW of solar power.

Overview

  • The Ministry of Power said on January 22 that transmission lines of 220 kV and above now exceed 500,000 circuit kilometres, supported by 1,407 GVA of transformation capacity.
  • The 628 ckm line, energized on January 14, connects Bhadla II to Sikar II to move power from the Bhadla, Ramgarh and Fatehgarh solar complex.
  • Since April 2014, the network has grown 71.6%, adding 2.09 lakh circuit kilometres of lines and 876 GVA of transformation capacity.
  • Inter‑regional transfer capability has reached 120,340 MW, advancing the One Nation–One Grid–One Frequency objective.
  • Projects under implementation are expected to add roughly 67,500 circuit kilometres and about 533 GVA across inter‑ and intra‑state systems to help reach 500 GW of non‑fossil capacity by 2030.
