Overview
- FADA data released Thursday showed passenger-vehicle retail hit 407,335 units in April 2026, up 12.21% year on year and down about 7% from March due to typical fiscal year-end normalization.
- Electric passenger-vehicle retail rose 75% to 23,506 units with a 5.8% market share, led by Tata Motors at 8,543 units as Mahindra and JSW MG followed.
- Maruti Suzuki remained the top brand by retail with 158,509 units, and its Dzire sedan was April’s best-selling model at 23,580 units.
- Rural demand grew much faster than urban markets at 20.4% versus 7.11% year on year, while CNG and EV shares increased within the fuel mix as petrol and diesel shares slipped.
- Hyundai confirmed a new midsize ICE SUV and a localized compact EV for this fiscal year and guided for about Rs 7,500 crore in FY27 capex to support targeted 8–10% domestic growth.
