Indian Navy to Commission INS Anjadip, Third Arnala-Class Sub-Hunter, in Chennai on Feb. 27

The shallow-water corvette advances India’s littoral anti-submarine warfare with an over-80% indigenous build.

Overview

  • The commissioning will be presided over by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, with the ship joining the Eastern Naval Command at Chennai Port.
  • Anjadip was indigenously designed and built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers as the third vessel in the eight-ship ASW Shallow Water Craft programme, with over 80% domestic content.
  • The 77-metre vessel employs high-speed water-jet propulsion to reach about 25 knots for rapid coastal operations.
  • Its locally developed ASW suite includes the hull-mounted sonar Abhay, lightweight torpedoes and anti-submarine rockets.
  • Beyond sub-hunting, the craft can conduct coastal surveillance, low-intensity maritime operations and search-and-rescue, supporting security along the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts.
