Indian Navy Hosts Fifth Goa Maritime Conclave on Feb. 21

Naval chiefs from 14 Indian Ocean nations will convene to tighten information sharing to counter illegal fishing as well as related maritime crime.

Overview

  • The conclave will be held on February 21 at the Naval War College in Goa, hosted by Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, with sessions at the Chola building at INS Mandovi, Verem.
  • Participants include chiefs or senior representatives from 14 countries across the Indian Ocean Region, including Bangladesh, Comoros, Indonesia, Kenya, Madagascar, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Myanmar, Seychelles, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Tanzania.
  • This edition’s theme is “Common Maritime Security Challenges in the IOR — Progressing Line of Efforts (LsoE) to Mitigate Dynamic Threats such as IUU Fishing and other Illegal Maritime Activities.”
  • Discussions will address IUU fishing, narcotics trafficking, piracy, maritime terrorism, contraband smuggling, irregular migration, climate impacts, cyber threats, and dark shipping.
  • Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth will serve as chief guest, former Naval Chief Admiral Arun Prakash (retd) will deliver the keynote, and officials expect outcomes focused on best‑practice exchange, trust building, and enhanced information sharing under India’s MAHASAGAR vision.
