Indian Navy Commissions INS Aravali in Gurugram as Communications and MDA Hub

The Gurugram base strengthens the Navy’s communications-driven maritime awareness across the Indian Ocean.

Overview

  • INS Aravali was commissioned on September 12, 2025, in a ceremony presided over by Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi that included a Guard of Honour, the commissioning warrant, and the unveiling of a plaque.
  • The Navy says the base will support information and communication centres central to command, control and Maritime Domain Awareness, guided by the motto “Maritime Security through Collaboration.”
  • Admiral Tripathi described the facility as a hub of technology and collaboration linking platforms and partners across oceans, aligning with the Prime Minister’s MAHASAGAR vision and India’s role as a preferred security partner in the region.
  • INS Aravali will support existing nodes in Gurugram, including the Information Management and Analysis Centre and the Information Fusion Centre–IOR, which draw on feeds from coastal radars and satellites.
  • Media reports describe planned enhancements such as AI-enabled tracking, ISRO’s GSAT-7R support, connectivity with 43 multinational centres, and a shift to a multi-agency NMDA centre, which have not been confirmed as operational by official statements.
