India Unveils Export Monitoring Framework for $2 Trillion Exports by FY31

The move tightens accountability for the export push.

Overview

  • The Commerce Ministry, in a review led by Piyush Goyal on Wednesday, rolled out a sector-wise Export Monitoring Framework tied to key performance indicators and timelines.
  • Each priority sector will have a nodal joint secretary who owns delivery and reports progress through an IT platform with automatic escalation to the secretary and the minister.
  • Officials were directed to shortlist products for import substitution to reduce reliance on foreign supplies as export promotion advances.
  • The Export Promotion Mission will target MSMEs and first-time exporters through Export Promotion Councils, Commodity Boards and DGFT regional offices, with added help for overseas warehousing plus testing and certification.
  • India’s merchandise exports reached about $441.8 billion in FY26, underscoring the gap to a $1 trillion goods goal and the push for stronger logistics, market access support and a unified Brand India.
