Overview
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to flag off a special inaugural run on Friday, July 17, and the Railway Board has issued train numbers 74010/74009 and a timetable for the 89 km Jind–Sonipat section.
- The trainset is a 10‑coach retrofit DEMU with two driving power cars and eight passenger coaches, rated at about 2,400 kW with 682 seats and a design top speed of roughly 110–120 km/h but a planned operational speed of 75 km/h on the pilot route.
- Final trials focusing on emergency braking and oscillation were completed and the project received regulatory clearances, with the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation approving the Jind refuelling and storage facility.
- A dedicated hydrogen plant at Jind can produce about 420–430 kg per day and store up to 3,000 kg, and the train is expected to consume around 300 kg daily with onboard leak detectors, flame sensors and a chiller-assisted refuelling system.
- Railways will run the pilot to gather safety and cost data before deciding wider use, the board has ordered specially trained technical staff aboard for the first three months, and authorities will finalise the date to begin regular commercial service after the inauguration.
