India Signs Rs 4,666-Crore Defence Deals for 4.25 Lakh Carbines and 48 Submarine Torpedoes

The package couples a large domestic carbine order with an import of heavyweight torpedoes to accelerate FY26 modernisation.

Overview

  • The contracts were signed at South Block in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and cover equipment for the Army and Navy.
  • The Rs 2,770 crore carbine order goes to Bharat Forge and PLR Systems with a roughly 60:40 production split and deliveries expected within about two years.
  • PLR Systems is 51% owned by an Adani subsidiary, placing Adani-linked manufacturing within the carbine supply chain.
  • A separate Rs 1,896 crore deal with Italy’s WASS will supply 48 heavyweight torpedoes for Kalvari-class submarines, with deliveries from April 2028 to early 2030.
  • The Defence Ministry says FY26 capital acquisition contracts now total Rs 1,82,492 crore as part of its ongoing modernisation drive.
