Officials cite improved supply adequacy as evidence of momentum toward 2030 clean‑energy goals.

Overview

  • Capacity additions reached 52,537 MW by January 31, 2026, surpassing the previous annual record of 34,054 MW set in FY24–25.
  • Renewables contributed 39,657 MW, including 34,955 MW of solar and 4,613 MW of wind, according to Power Ministry data.
  • Thermal plants added 8,810 MW during the period, signaling continued growth across a mixed generation portfolio.
  • Total installed capacity rose more than 11% to 520,510.95 MW (about 521 GW) in the first 10 months of FY26.
  • Non‑fossil sources now provide roughly 52.25% of installed capacity, with officials also reporting an energy deficit at nil and unmet peak demand near zero as India pursues 500 GW non‑fossil by 2030 and Net Zero by 2070.
