India Sets 2029–30 Goal of Six Crore ‘Lakhpati Didis’ Under Rural Livelihoods Mission

Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the next phase will lean on SHG-led credit and insurance to lift more women past the Rs 1 lakh income mark.

Overview

  • Announcing the revision in Hyderabad, the minister reported 3.01 crore women already earning at least Rs 1 lakh a year under DAY-NRLM.
  • He said the earlier target of three crore was achieved by 2025, ahead of the end-2027 timeline set by the prime minister.
  • A special enrolment drive will bring non-members into Self Help Groups, which currently include about 10 crore women.
  • Credit scaling is central to the plan, with SHG NPAs at 1.7%, Rs 12 lakh crore disbursed over 12 years, a new Rs 10 lakh crore goal for five years, and Rs 1.5 lakh crore set aside for individual entrepreneur loans.
  • The Centre plans to cover 90% of SHG members under Pradhan Mantri insurance schemes and bolster financial literacy, while Chouhan also criticized Telangana’s previous BRS government over PM Awas Yojana participation.
