India Says LPG Supply Stable With No Shortages as Commercial Prices Rise

Household cylinder rates stay frozen, leaving oil marketers to absorb large losses.

Overview

  • The Petroleum Ministry said domestic LPG supply is normal with no distributor dry-outs despite the West Asia conflict and a blocked Strait of Hormuz.
  • Deliveries topped bookings with more than 9.7 million cylinders supplied against about 8.8 million orders, supported by 99% online booking and 95% code-verified drop-offs.
  • State-run firms left household 14.2 kg cylinder prices unchanged while lifting the 19 kg commercial rate by about ₹993 to ₹3,071.50 in Delhi.
  • Enforcement to curb hoarding included more than 2,000 raids with penalties on 378 distributors and 76 suspensions.
  • The ministry said oil marketers face about ₹30,000 crore in monthly losses as they shield consumers, and it urged customers to avoid panic buying and book through digital channels.
