Overview
- The Centre selected Leguntapadu, Bitragunta, Mahimalur, Kalivelapalem, Manubolu and Kakupalli in Andhra Pradesh for conversion into model solar villages under the PM Surya Ghar scheme.
- The initiative will provide solar home lighting in every household and add solar-powered water systems, agricultural pumps and street lighting, with one village to receive a ₹1 crore development grant as Nellore’s Model Solar Village.
- Nationwide deployment now exceeds 20.85 lakh rooftop systems benefiting over 26.14 lakh households, with ₹14,771 crore released in direct financial assistance, according to Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein.
- The programme, launched on February 13, 2024, has a total outlay of ₹75,021 crore and targets rooftop solar for one crore households by March 2027.
- Local rollout continues to build momentum, with Bihar’s Samastipur reporting 3,970 applications, 550 installations and 511 subsidy disbursements, supported by a Solar Fair at Patel Maidan and access to bank financing.
