Overview
- The Heavy Industries Ministry approved ₹503.86 crore for 4,874 public EV chargers under PM E-Drive, a move the minister announced Tuesday.
- State-run fuel retailers HPCL, IOCL and BPCL will install most units at their petrol pumps to serve cars, two- and three-wheelers, buses and trucks.
- A Unified Bharat e-Charge app will let drivers find a charger, start a session and pay in one place, using an NPCI-built framework with BHEL managing the platform, and it is expected to go live in the coming weeks.
- Karnataka will get 1,243 chargers backed by ₹123.26 crore, building on earlier FAME-II deployments that have already put thousands of public chargers on the ground.
- India had about 29,151 public chargers by December 2025 for more than 5 million EVs, and officials say work is underway on grid readiness and standards to boost reliability and use.
