India Auto Wholesales Set January Record on Broad-Based Double-Digit Growth

Lower GST rates that enabled price cuts and recent budget steps kept demand strong, the industry body said.

  • Total vehicle production across categories reached 29.27 lakh units in January, up about 15% from a year earlier.
  • Within passenger vehicles, utility vehicles drove growth as passenger car dispatches fell 5% year on year; Maruti Suzuki led with 1,74,529 units.
  • For April–January, passenger vehicle sales rose 6.2% to 37.07 lakh units, with production up 8.4% and exports up 17.6%, while SIAM noted some luxury makers’ data were excluded and Tata Motors’ domestic split was not provided.
