IMD Reports Fresh Snow and Rain Across Himachal as Western Disturbance Persists

Forecasters say higher elevations see light precipitation through Feb. 3, then most of the state turns clear from Feb. 4 to 8.

  • An active western disturbance kept light to moderate rain and snowfall going across Himachal Pradesh over the past 24 hours, the IMD said.
  • Kothi in Kullu recorded the highest snowfall at 15 cm, Kalpa saw about 13 cm and Sangla 8–10 cm, while Bhattiyat in Chamba logged 21.2 mm of rain.
  • Maximum temperatures dropped by 2–10°C at many stations, leading to cold wave-like conditions in Manali and Mandi, with Tabo the coldest at −7.9°C.
  • The weather office maintained yellow warnings for thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds, and reported dense fog in Bilaspur with storms in parts of Mandi and Kangra.
  • Light snow and rain are likely at isolated spots in mid and high hills through Feb. 3, lower hills and plains stay largely dry, and a weak system around Feb. 5–7 could bring isolated high-elevation snow.
