IED Hits Factory Bus in KP During Intensified Raids That Killed Three Suspects

The attacks fit a yearlong rise in KP militancy tracked by independent monitors.

Overview

  • Police said an improvised explosive device struck a cement factory vehicle near Nawarkhel Mor on Begukhel Road in Lakki Marwat, killing one worker and injuring nine, including two women, with several victims moved to hospitals in Lakki and Bannu.
  • District police later reported that the militant involved in planting the Lakki Marwat IED was neutralised during an operation, with investigations continuing into additional perpetrators.
  • A day earlier, four policemen were shot dead in separate motorcycle attacks: three traffic officers in Sarai Naurang, Lakki Marwat (In‑charge Naurang Jalal Khan, Constable Azizullah, and Constable Abdullah) and Constable Rashid Khan in Bannu’s Mandan area.
  • In an intelligence-based raid in the Naurang area, CTD and police killed three wanted militants — Muhammad Nazir alias Mujahid, Fawadullah alias Muaz, and Afnan Khan alias Afnani — and recovered a Kalashnikov, pistols, mobile phones, and cards linked to a banned organisation.
  • Earlier on Jan 3, attackers using heavy and light weapons hit a police post in Bajaur’s Barang tehsil, killing local resident Naseem Gul and injuring two policemen and a school watchman, as security forces carried out a clearance operation and tightened patrols; officials said no group had claimed responsibility while national and provincial leaders condemned the violence.
