IDF Says Gaza Strike Killed Hamas Commander Linked to Murder of Captive Soldier Noa Marciano

The military says the operation answered a ceasefire breach that left a reservist officer seriously wounded.

Overview

  • Israeli forces said an airstrike in Gaza City’s Shati refugee camp killed Muhammad Issam Hassan al-Habil, identified as a Hamas cell leader.
  • Shin Bet said interrogations of detainees indicated al-Habil murdered Cpl. Noa Marciano during her captivity after she was abducted on Oct. 7, 2023.
  • The IDF described the strike as retaliation for an overnight shooting in northern Gaza that violated the ceasefire and seriously wounded a reserve officer.
  • The military also named Bilal Abu Assi of Hamas and Ali Raziana of Islamic Jihad among militants killed in the operation.
  • Marciano’s body was recovered near Shifa Hospital in November 2023, and Israeli findings concluded she was killed in captivity as the IDF vows to keep pursuing Oct. 7 perpetrators.
