IDF Hosts Haredi Enlistment Day, Assigns Recruits to Dedicated Combat Units

The move signals an IDF bid to bring ultra-Orthodox men into combat under protections for their religious life.

Overview

  • Recruits at the Tel Hashomer induction center, who reported Sunday for a special enlistment day, were placed in Haredi tracks across the Netzah Yehuda Battalion, the Hashmonaim Brigade, the Hetz platoon in the Paratroopers, the Avnet platoon in the Border Police, and the Negev platoon in the Air Force.
  • The IDF said it is running a recruitment drive for three Haredi combat units, naming Hetz, Netzah Yehuda, and the Hashmonaim Brigade.
  • Manpower Directorate chief Maj. Gen. Dado Bar-Kalifa met the new recruits and called them pioneers, and he said commanders would ensure conditions that let them keep their way of life during service.
  • The Hashmonaim Brigade highlighted new institutional tracks, noting an independent training base, courses for squad leaders and combat medics, drone and UAV training, and the recent completion of its first officer cycle tailored for Haredi soldiers.
  • Many enlistees arrived after months in pre-military academies run by the Netzah Yehuda Association, which focus on faith, identity, and mental preparation for combat service.
