ICE to Equip Field Agents With Body Cameras Nationwide by End of August

The rollout follows calls for greater transparency after fatal enforcement encounters, with shipments due next week under a $20 million DHS contract.

Overview

  • Acting ICE Director David Venturella told senators Thursday that DHS has awarded a contract using $20 million and that body cameras will begin shipping to field offices next week with full field issuance by the end of August.
  • The July 13 Biddeford shooting that killed Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero did not produce on-body footage and is being investigated by the DHS Office of Inspector General, the FBI and the Maine attorney general's office.
