ICC Warns of Possible War Crimes After RSF Seizes El-Fasher as Evidence of Mass Killings Mounts

Independent satellite analysis now corroborates survivor accounts of large-scale atrocities.

Overview

  • Yale’s Humanitarian Research Lab identified clusters consistent with bodies and fading red discoloration across El-Fasher between October 27–31, findings it says are compatible with large-scale killings and possible removal of bodies.
  • UN agencies report about 65,000 people fled El-Fasher while tens of thousands remain trapped or unaccounted for, and the IPC warns famine is expanding to El-Fasher and the besieged city of Kadugli with 20 other areas at risk.
  • Survivor testimonies describe mass arrests, improvised detention sites, beatings, kidnappings for ransom and sexual violence, with WHO reporting at least 460 people killed in a city maternity facility.
  • Fighting is spreading into North Kordofan, where the IOM says 36,825 fled in a week, RSF units are concentrating near El-Obeid, and the UN has flagged ethnically targeted reprisals consistent with patterns seen in Darfur.
  • The ICC prosecutor cautioned that reported acts could constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity, France called for an immediate ceasefire and accountability, and media and observers continue to report alleged UAE logistical support to the RSF while the group says it has detained some fighters over abuses.
