Overview
- The Air Force conducted a final dress rehearsal on Feb. 12 at the 4.2‑km Moran bypass strip, confirming readiness for operations at the Northeast’s first highway-based ELF.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to land directly on the highway strip on Feb. 14 aboard an IAF aircraft before inaugurating the facility and then flying to Guwahati for additional project launches.
- An IAF showcase of about 16 aircraft featuring Rafale, Su-30MKI and Tejas fighters, along with transport types, is planned at the site with several jets expected to land on the strip.
- Built under NHIDCL supervision, the 30‑metre‑wide reinforced concrete stretch was developed as a dual-use runway on the Dibrugarh–Moran highway, with reports placing the cost at roughly Rs 150 crore.
- Security has been tightened with traffic diverted from the Moran stretch since Feb. 6, and public viewing is being arranged from outside fenced perimeters for the trials and inauguration.
