I-95 Crash in Maine Kills Driver After Tractor-Trailer Hits Stopped Car
Investigators are focused on why the Chevrolet Volt stopped in a travel lane.
Overview
- Juan Guallpa, 33, of Lempster, New Hampshire, died after his stopped Chevrolet Volt was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer on I-95 in Newport late Tuesday.
- State police said the Volt was in the northbound travel lane near mile marker 157 when a Freightliner struck it from behind.
- The collision pushed the car into the median as the tractor-trailer rolled onto its passenger side and came to rest across the southbound lanes.
- The truck driver was injured and taken by ambulance to Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield for treatment.
- Northbound lanes reopened around 3 a.m., with southbound traffic reduced to one lane during an hours-long cleanup, and police asked witnesses to call Trooper Joshua Staples at 207-973-3700, ext. 9.
