Overview
- State crews will close I-65 between Jefferson Street and I-264 starting Monday, June 1, for about two months to allow concentrated reconstruction work on the central corridor.
- Contractors will focus first on replacing three failing bridges at Burnett Avenue, Kentucky Street and Bradley Avenue, work officials say will include new foundations, beams and decks after inspectors rated those spans in poor or serious condition.
- KYTC has posted a 16-mile signed detour using I-264 and I-64 for through traffic, and officials tell drivers to expect about 15–20 minutes of added travel time on the detour and longer delays on local streets.
- Downtown hospitals and Louisville Metro EMS have coordinated access plans, will position ambulances and adjust operations as needed, and say emergency care will remain available during the closure.
- Officials say the all-at-once shutdown will shorten the overall $150 million corridor program by roughly a year, but crews will continue periodic underpass and ramp closures with full corridor work expected to continue through mid-2027 and local roads likely to see sustained traffic shifts.
