Hyundai Reveals Ioniq 3, a Compact ‘Aero Hatch’ EV for Europe

The launch strengthens Hyundai’s push into compact, efficient city EVs for Europe.

Overview

  • Hyundai unveiled the Ioniq 3 in Milan as a subcompact crossover it calls an Aero Hatch, positioned below the Ioniq 5.
  • The car uses Hyundai’s 400-volt E-GMP modular EV platform and offers two setups: a 42.2 kWh pack rated at a projected 214 miles WLTP and a 61 kWh pack targeting 308 miles WLTP.
  • Fast charging from 10% to 80% is quoted at about 29 minutes on DC power, and AC charging capacity is up to 22 kW.
  • European sales start in September with production in Türkiye, pricing remains unannounced, and Hyundai says the model will not be sold in the US.
  • An N Line appearance package will be offered with no confirmed N performance version, and early comparisons report lower weight and a larger 441-liter boot than Volkswagen’s ID.3 Neo.
