Hyundai Recalls About 424,000 Vehicles Over Camera Software, Airbag Inflator and Suspension Defects

NHTSA says dealers will deliver a front‑camera software update, targeted inflator replacements, suspension inspections, and alignments to cut the risk of unexpected braking and injury

Overview

  • Hyundai has issued three coordinated recalls covering roughly 424,000 U.S. vehicles for separate defects in 2025–2026 Santa Cruz and Tucson models, 2015–2016 Elantras, and a small number of Ioniq EVs.
  • A software fault in front cameras can make the forward collision avoidance system apply the brakes prematurely on more than 421,000 Santa Cruz and Tucson variants and dealers will install a free camera software update.
  • About 3,493 Elantras from 2015–2016 may have ARC Automotive airbag inflators that could rupture and eject shrapnel, and dealers will inspect and replace inflators when needed; Hyundai says it is not aware of any ruptures.
  • A separate recall affecting 172 Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 9 vehicles covers rear suspension fasteners that may not have been torqued properly and requires inspection, replacement of fasteners if needed, and a rear alignment.
  • Hyundai reported 376 complaints related to the braking issue including four rear‑end crashes with four injuries, owner notification letters will begin in mid‑July, and dealers will perform the repairs free of charge.
