Hyundai, Kia Launch MobED Alliance, Start Domestic Sales of Modular Robot Platform

The effort focuses on a partner ecosystem to speed workplace adoption.

Overview

  • At Seoul’s AW2026 expo, Hyundai Motor and Kia debuted MobED and began domestic sales alongside the formal launch of the MobED Alliance.
  • MobED uses four independently driven Drive-and-Lift wheels to handle uneven terrain and supports swap-in top modules for tasks such as logistics delivery, patrol drone stations and advertising displays.
  • The alliance sets a four-party model in which the Robotics Lab supplies the core platform, parts makers provide components, solution firms manage deployment and services, and institutions support testing and adoption.
  • Founding participants include suppliers Hyundai Transys and SL, solution providers LS Tira U-Tech and Gaon Robotics, and the Korea AI and Robotics Industry Association.
  • Hyundai says it plans open APIs and two versions of MobED—Basic for developers and Pro with integrated AI—with broader commercial sales targeted for the first half of 2026, and the platform earned a CES 2026 robotics best innovation award as shares edged slightly lower on the news.
