Hypersonica Reports Mach 6+ Maiden Flight, Raises €23.3 Million to Accelerate Hypersonic Tests

The Anglo-German startup touts a modular, nine-month development model as a route to a sovereign European strike capability by 2029.

Overview

  • The HS1 prototype launched on February 3 from Andøya Space in Norway and covered more than 300 km after exceeding Mach 6, according to the company.
  • Hypersonica says all systems operated nominally during ascent and descent, with performance validated down to subcomponents at hypersonic speeds.
  • A phased campaign through 2026 is planned to demonstrate advanced flight control, complex manoeuvrability, and progress toward full mission profiles.
  • A €23.3m Series A was led by Plural with Germany’s SPRIND, General Catalyst, and 201 Ventures to fund accelerated follow-on tests.
  • Founded in December 2023 by Philipp Kerth and Marc Ewenz, the company claims to be the EU’s first private launcher of a hypersonic missile and is aligning its roadmap with NATO and UK 2030 frameworks.
