HYDRAA Steps Up Asset Protection With Phone-In Orders After Encroachment Raids

A citywide phone-in signaled tighter follow-through with a phased push on lake restoration.

Overview

  • During a one-hour Saturday phone-in, Commissioner A. V. Ranganath took 36 calls on sewage, foul odour, mosquito issues and encroachments, directed immediate action, and asked residents to call back within a week if problems persist.
  • He clarified HYDRAA’s jurisdiction extends only up to the Outer Ring Road and said six lakes are in the first development phase with 14 more to be taken up next in stages.
  • HYDRAA reported sealing two five-storey buildings in Neknampur that allegedly used fake LRS documents to secure permissions on land reserved for public utilities.
  • On Friday, teams cleared more than 11 acres of illegal structures from the Sumarakunta lake full-tank level at Dulapally, with officials noting shikham patta land there permits only agriculture when dry.
  • The agency also reclaimed about 3.2 acres of government land at Borabanda and safeguarded 1,365 square yards of temple land at Nagaram, with a police case filed against alleged encroacher Sharif Khan.
