HYDRAA Rescues Nine Stranded on Hyderabad’s Mir Alam Lake During Bridge Survey

A disabled boat in hyacinth‑choked waters known for crocodiles forced a midnight evacuation by DRF teams.

Overview

  • The group of engineers, soil-testing experts, and labourers became stuck when their boat’s engine failed as they returned from preliminary surveys for a proposed ₹319.24 crore bridge.
  • Their Dial 100 distress call was routed to HYDRAA’s Disaster Response Force, which launched a nighttime operation and kept continuous phone contact with the stranded team.
  • Rescuers used mobile phone flashlights to locate the boat through dense water hyacinth and evacuated the nine people in two trips, first four and then five.
  • All nine were brought to shore near Zoo Park without injuries after efforts to restart or manually push the boat failed.
  • Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy later praised HYDRAA’s response, while reports noted the bridge is contracted to KNR Constructions with a 24‑month completion target.
