HYDRAA Clears Illegal Fill, Fences Tellapur’s Mellacheruvu Lake

A complaint-driven enquiry documented large-scale dumping that blocked inlets at the 108-acre Tellapur lake.

Overview

  • HYDRAA pulled down obstructions, removed debris and halted the ongoing filling of Mellacheruvu on Friday under police security.
  • Officials demarcated the water body’s limits and installed fencing, with nearly 40 acres within the full tank level secured to deter fresh encroachments.
  • A field inspection found truckloads of soil and boulders had been dumped and inlet heights were raised, leaving roughly half the lake’s extent filled and water levels reduced.
  • Residents flagged blocked inlets at HYDRAA’s Prajavani programme, and Medak MP M. Raghunandan Rao’s written complaint prompted Commissioner A. V. Ranganath to order an enquiry.
  • Ranganath had directed nearby landowner Raju Yadav to vacate land near the lake, and action followed noncompliance as officials cited rules restricting FTL land use to agriculture.
