Hyderabad Woman Says Chicago Cop Husband Abandoned Her and Took Passport as Appeal Reaches Jaishankar

The case has prompted an appeal to India’s foreign minister for help securing a visa to pursue legal action in the United States.

Overview

  • A complaint filed with Panjagutta Police alleges that Mohammed Zain Uddin, a Chicago Police officer, subjected Hana Ahmed Khan to abuse after she joined him in the U.S. in February 2024.
  • She says he flew her to Hyderabad on February 7, 2025, checked into a Somajiguda hotel, and then returned to the U.S. with her passport, green card and jewellery while she visited her parents.
  • The complainant reports being denied assistance at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi and the U.S. Consulate in Hyderabad and says she has been unable to contact her husband for six months.
  • MBT spokesperson Amjed Ullah Khan has written to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar seeking coordination with U.S. authorities and help obtaining a visa and duplicate documents so she can return to pursue the case.
  • There has been no verified public response from the husband, his lawyer, the Chicago Police Department or U.S. consular officials; some reports cite his claim of mutual separation and a U.S. divorce, and her family says a WhatsApp message asserted a divorce decree.
