Hyderabad Water Board Expects No Summer Shortage

Officials launch a waste crackdown to manage demand during the peak heat.

Overview

  • Managing director K Ashok Reddy said the board can produce 600 million gallons a day but is supplying 570 because the Manjeera network still limits flow.
  • At Singur, where dam repairs cap withdrawals at 8 TMC, the board has set up emergency pumping as a backup.
  • Tanker trips rose from 108,000 in January to 150,000 by April, with demand clustered in areas such as Durgam Cheruvu, SR Nagar, Kukatpally, Manikonda and Hafeezpet.
  • The board is launching a waste-control drive that asks residents to report misuse on the Paani app, with fines and disconnections for repeat violations.
  • Officials will buy treated water from about 800 private plants and send it in red-marked tankers for non-drinking use, while deploying robotic tools to fix polluted-water complaints.
