Hyderabad Sets March 6 Lake Opening as HYDRAA Launches Citywide Restoration Push

Officials say coordinated upgrades with sewage treatment will lock in long‑term gains.

Overview

  • Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is scheduled to inaugurate the rejuvenated Bum-Rukn-ud-Dowla lake in Shivarampally on March 6.
  • HYDRAA plans to rejuvenate more than 24 lakes over the next 12–18 months, with sanctions reported for 14 sites including IDL, Amber Cheruvu, Gangaram Cheruvu, Peerla Cheruvu and Saroornagar.
  • Nallacheruvu in Kukatpally is largely restored and expected to open to the public soon, with discussions planned with HMWS&SB on a nearby sewage treatment plant.
  • Enforcement at Nallacheruvu removed encroachments in the full tank level and buffer zone, expanding the lake from 16 acres to nearly 30.
  • Officials report growing public visits to the restored Nallacheruvu and expect the upgrades to reduce local flooding and bolster groundwater levels.
