Hyderabad Police Move Foreign Detainee Transit Home to Jogipet

The shift aims to speed removals by routing cases through a single short-term facility.

Overview

  • The city police relocated and made operational a transit centre for foreign detainees at the Jogipet sub-jail in Sangareddy district.
  • Officials said twelve people, including nine men and three women from Sudan, Nigeria, Uganda and Cameroon, are held there pending deportation.
  • The centre houses people accused of illegal stay, visa breaches or crimes such as human trafficking, drug offenses and cyber fraud.
  • Deportations move ahead after travel papers and clearances from the External Affairs and Home ministries, with transfers by air or at border points under police escort.
  • Since 2018, Hyderabad facilities have handled 196 foreign detainees, and police report 184 deportations completed after due process.
