Hyderabad Opens Shastripuram Road Over Bridge After Five-Year Delay

The link is expected to cut long detours for south Hyderabad commuters.

Overview

  • The Shastripuram road over bridge, inaugurated Friday by IT minister D. Sridhar Babu, opened to traffic between Mailardevpally and the Falaknuma RTC depot.
  • GHMC says the project cost ₹71 crore and spans 490 meters in length with a 16.6 meter deck and a 37.28 meter railway span.
  • The new link is expected to cut about 30 minutes for some trips and provide a three to five minute hop to Bandlaguda road for drivers who once took a four kilometer detour.
  • The route is positioned to ease movement toward National Highway 44, the PV Narasimha Rao Expressway and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.
  • The bridge uses steel girders, RCC precast elements, POT‑PTFE bearings and modular expansion joints, which GHMC says should boost durability and steady traffic while reducing idling and crash risks at the former rail crossing.
