Hyderabad Doctor Arrested After BMW Found With Remote Flip Number Plates

Police have opened a probe into the illegal device, including possible road-tax evasion.

Overview

  • The driver, stopped in a Jubilee Hills drunk-driving check on Friday night near the Chiranjeevi Blood Bank, recorded a blood alcohol level of 137 mg per 100 ml.
  • Officers seized the BMW after a button near the steering flipped the front plate to a second number, letting the car swap between Delhi DL6CM7097 and Telangana TS9FQ9999.
  • Police verified the vehicle’s identity by matching the chassis and engine numbers with Delhi records and booked the driver for cheating and impersonation under the BNS along with Motor Vehicles Act offences.
  • Investigators say the Telangana plate belongs to a different BMW at the driver’s home and report the flip unit was bought online and installed by a Madhapur accessories technician.
  • Jubilee Hills police said they arrested the driver on Monday and released him on station bail, and the inquiry now focuses on the installer, the supply chain, and whether the device was used earlier to dodge enforcement.
