Hyderabad Cashier Booked for Using Another Activa’s Number Plate
Police say the plate swap caused traffic fines to be wrongly issued to a legitimate owner and has led to criminal charges and an ongoing probe.
Overview
- Investigators allege a 37-year-old petrol pump cashier, identified as Shaik Ali of Naya Qila in Golconda, affixed a different Activa’s registration plate to his Honda Activa to mislead enforcement agencies.
- The registration number used on the accused’s scooter was registered to Anup Kumar Gupta of Tirumala Hills in Puppalaguda, which led to traffic challans being generated for Gupta’s vehicle instead of the accused’s.
- Langer House police registered a case under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant Motor Vehicles Act provisions and issued a notice under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.
- Hyderabad Traffic Police and Langer House police say they traced the misuse through vehicle checks and camera systems and are continuing the probe into how the plate was obtained and fitted.
- Police warned that using fake or tampered number plates is a serious offence and that the case highlights how plate misuse can wrongfully penalize innocent vehicle owners while prompting stricter enforcement.
