Overview
- The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board has opened Himayat Sagar floodgates and started a controlled discharge to manage rising inflows.
- Officials set an initial release of up to 1,000 cusecs and said flow rates will be reviewed and changed as inflows and weather evolve.
- The reservoir held 2.334 tmc of water against a 2.521 tmc capacity and a full-reservoir level of 1763.50 ft, leaving limited spare storage.
- Board managing director K. Ashok Reddy ordered Hyderabad and Rangareddy district administrations, GHMC, HYDRAA and police to stay on alert during the operation.
- Authorities have advised downstream residents to avoid water channels and exercise caution while releases continue as a standard flood-mitigation step.
