Overview
- Police in Hyderabad and Cyberabad carried out weekend special drives that together led to the arrest of more than 700 people for driving under the influence, and all those detained are to be produced before courts.
- Hyderabad reported 422 apprehensions while Cyberabad reported 284, with most offenders riding two-wheelers rather than cars or three-wheelers.
- Authorities released blood-alcohol concentration breakdowns showing many offenders with moderate readings and dozens with very high levels, including readings above 300 mg/100 ml in Hyderabad and up to 550 mg/100 ml in Cyberabad.
- Courts handled 164 drunk-driving cases in the preceding week, imposing fines for most offenders, ordering social service for some and jailing two people, and police warned that causing a fatal crash while drunk can be prosecuted under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
