Overview
- Chelsea Spillers, 33, was found dead during a welfare check on Oct. 18 in her Alvarado home, and a preliminary medical examiner’s exam listed blunt force trauma.
- Brandon Ashley was detained on Oct. 20 in the Bedias area of Grimes County after multiple reports of erratic behavior and a possible pistol.
- Deputies say Ashley indicated he hid a gun near a convenience store, and a .357 revolver was later recovered.
- Days before the death, Alvarado officers responded to a reported domestic incident in which Ashley allegedly put a gun to his head and was arrested for interference before bonding out.
- Authorities say Ashley received a hospital evaluation, was booked into the Grimes County Jail, and is awaiting transport to Johnson County as investigations continue and the school district provides counseling.
