Hurghada Poised to Overtake Antalya in Nürnberg’s Winter Travel as Expanded Egypt Flights Begin

Airport planners cite a surge in Red Sea capacity with the new winter schedule now in effect.

Overview

  • Albrecht Dürer Airport has launched its Winterflugplan 2025/26 with more than 40 nonstop destinations and a notably enlarged Egypt offering, including new service to Sharm El Sheikh.
  • Hurghada is scheduled up to 20 times per week from Nürnberg, and officials forecast that bookings over the full winter could surpass long‑time leader Antalya.
  • During Bavaria’s autumn school break the immediate leader remains Antalya with more than 23,000 travelers, followed by Hurghada with over 13,000, as the airport expects around 140,000 passengers overall.
  • The airport projects roughly 20% growth for the October–March period, rising from about 1.17 million to 1.4 million passengers based on current schedules and booking trends.
  • Regionally, Munich’s winter plan is also live, offering flights to 184 destinations in 68 countries with Lufthansa restoring long‑haul routes such as Riyadh, Johannesburg and São Paulo.
