Overview
- The Reds announced Wednesday that Greene was placed on the 15-day injured list retroactive to Aug. 2 and that right-hander Luis Mey was recalled from Triple-A Louisville as the corresponding roster move.
- Team officials said Greene felt soreness during a side session, saw a doctor and underwent an MRI with results not yet released and a reported second opinion with Dr. Neal El Attrache scheduled.
- Greene had surgery in March to remove bone chips from his right elbow and only returned to make his season debut on July 4, making five starts since then.
- In those five starts Greene went 2-2 with a 6.83 ERA, 33 strikeouts and nine walks in 27 2/3 innings, and Reds manager Terry Francona said on a radio pregame show there is 'probably a slim chance' Greene pitches again this season.
- The setback raises durability and roster questions for Cincinnati after the club kept Greene through the Aug. 3 trade deadline and given his multi-year contract and history of prior arm procedures.
