Overview
- Roughly 200 mostly teenage people converged on Horny Corner and the Bayshore Avenue–Ocean Boulevard area on Thursday evening, turning an end-of-school celebration into a disorderly crowd.
- Officers arrived within about five minutes, used multiple squad cars and a helicopter to disperse the group, and intervened after at least one large fight between Ocean Boulevard and Termino Avenue.
- Police investigated a report that someone had a gun, briefly drew weapons and detained people for checks, and concluded no one was armed.
- By about 10 p.m. five juveniles were cited for violating the city curfew and released to guardians; no arrests or injuries were reported and an alleged attempted robbery was not pursued by the reported victim.
- The department said it will maintain enhanced patrols through the weekend, noting the incident reflects a trend of social-media-driven beach takeovers that strain police resources and can divert officers from emergency calls.
