Overview
- San Diego Humane Society is leading a mass rescue at a rural sanctuary in Julian after the Sheriff’s Office and Humane Law Enforcement served a search warrant.
- Teams are caring for more than 100 cats, about 30 dogs, and at least 150 horses, along with farm animals such as goats, donkeys, alpacas, and poultry.
- Chief Jace Huggins said crews are triaging animals, moving sick or injured ones first, and working to secure ongoing care for every animal on the property.
- With shelters already over capacity, SDHS paused cat adoptions at its El Cajon campus and called for adopters, fosters, volunteers, and donations while partners from Pasadena Humane, Marin Humane, and LA County Animal Care & Control assist.
- The case was transferred from County Animal Services on April 24 and remains under investigation, and officials have not released information about the property’s owners or residents.
